If you use Outlook, the Zimbra web interface (https://mail.desy.de), or an Exchange ActiveSync account on your mobile device to read your emails, you can ignore the following information. On 12.05.2026, an insecure method for sending emails (SMTP/STARTTLS, Port 587) will be disabled. To ensure you can continue sending emails after this date, please check your email client (e.g., Thunderbird) for the following settings and adjust them if necessary: - Server name: mail.desy.de - Port: 465 - Encryption: "SSL/TLS" or "SSL" General instructions for setting up email clients can be found on the following pages: https://it.desy.de/services/e_mail/mail_clients Note: Thunderbird installations managed via DSM will be updated automatically in advance.

This change, originally planned for April 14, 2026, is being postponed due to organizational reasons. All users who currently use email clients or services that send emails via this port must take action and update their configuration in time. Please ensure that all affected email clients are switched to the currently recommended and secure SSL/TLS protocol by this date. In the future, the following settings must be used for sending emails: Server name: mail.desy.de port 465 encryption: SSL/TLS Depending on the email client, the naming of these options may vary — some clients may display only “SSL” instead of “SSL/TLS”; in such cases, please select “SSL”. Authentication is performed using a Zimbra Application Code (see documentation below). As username, you may use either your email address or your DESY username.
