Solved: Disturbance of the Central Storage Service DESY Sync & Share
The problem has been solved.

Since today, Donnerstag, 25.4.2024, about 13:45h, the central storage service DESY Sync and Share is not reachable.

Also affected was the synchronization with local devices using the data synchronization software (Nextcloud Client).

Tonight between 2:20 a.m. to 3:50 a.m. the central storage service DESY Sync and Share was not reachable. Therefore the following web sites were not available:

https://syncundshare.desy.de
https://syncnshare.desy.de
https://share.desy.de
https://desycloud.desy.de

Also affected was the synchronization with local devices using the data synchronization software (Nextcloud Client). Thus, the synchronization was currently not possible.

The problem was solved on April 23, 2024 at 3:50 a.m.

Trouble caused by: There was a problem with the Sync and Share database servers.

Postponed: Update of the central Linux system pal.desy.de from EL7 to EL9
Due to unexpected technical problems, maintenance will be postponed to 30.04.2024.

On Tuesday, 30.04.2024 at 12 noon, the central Linux system pal.desy.de will be updated from Enterprise Linux 7 to Enterprise Linux 9. You can still access the old system with Enterprise Linux 7 explicitly via pal-el7.desy.de until the final shutdown.

In this context, please note the following changes concerning pal.desy.de:

- To use FastX, FastX3 must be used instead of FastX2 with port 3389:
https://pal.desy.de:3389/auth/ssh/

The FastX3 client and further information on its use can be found on the following websites:
https://confluence.desy.de/display/IS/FastX3
https://it.desy.de/services/soft/downloads/starnet/index_eng.html

- The tools for restoring AFS files (dsm_afs/dsmc_afs) are not yet available here. If a restore is necessary, please still use the old system (pal-el7.desy.de).

- Please also keep in mind that operating system-dependent cron jobs could be affected by the change. If possible, these should be checked in advance and adjusted if necessary.

Usage of FastX on pal-el7.desy.de:
- Continue to use FastX2 with port 3443, but from now on with the explicit name

During this time period the database of the DOOR system will still be accessible for the DESY Gamma Portal (https://gamma-portal.desy.de).

Since Thursday, the 24.8.2023 it is not possible to assign new IPv6 addresses or modify existing entries in the IP address management system QIP (https://qip.desy.de). IPv4 address entries are not affected by this.

If you have urgent changes, they can be made directly by NOC. Please contact NOC directly (noc@desy.de).

We are working on a solution to this problem with highest priority.

Currently we observe problems when editing web sites using the Atlassian Wiki Tool Confluence (https://confluence.desy.de). This means, if a page is saved you won't get the same page later again but some random previous version of it, so changes are lost.

Therefore, please check the page content of a revised version with the content of the updated version before you save the page.

We are working on a solution to this problem together with the manufacturer.

As of Tuesday 05.03.2024, the Atlassian Tool Jira will be set to read-only mode, therefore changes can no longer be made after this date. Access to these services is already only possible via the internal network.
The service will be switched off completely at the end of May. Temporary continued operation in read-only mode is conditional on any security vulnerabilities becoming known, which could necessitate a short-term shutdown in consultation with D4.
Therefore, please make sure that you migrate the data you need from Jira as soon as possible.
